2 FARES AT ONCE

Toronto riders now have another option: uberPOOL!

uberPOOL is like uberX, but with matched carpooling. It matches different riders travelling on a similar path. Each rider pays their own trip fare; for the same drive, you get the rider fares added together.

You MUST follow the steps below to understand POOL and get ready for two fares at once!

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHAT IS UBERPOOL?

uberPOOL is an option for riders to share their ride, "matching" them with other people going the same direction.

Different riders traveling at the same time normally need two uberX drivers. POOL puts these riders in the same car; they each pay less than uberX but the driver-partner gets both fares added together, earning more overall on average.

It is better for the environment and traffic congestion, and is more constant business for you.

DO I GET PAID DIFFERENTLY? WHAT IS THE SERVICE FEE?

Each rider pays their own fare. Rider payments get added together for your gross fare. Each "2nd request" means an extra fare added to your first one. Remember, uberPOOL matches riders ONLY if their paths overlap.

If you get multiple pick-ups on a uberPOOL trip ("matched" trip): you get multiple fares at once, which leads to more take-home earnings than a single uberX trip (you can't compare two uberPOOL trips to two uberX trips, because two uberX trips at the same time would need two separate drivers). The service fee is 30%.

If you only get one pick-up on a uberPOOL trip ("unmatched"): because the price is lower, the Uber service fee is only 10%.

Also, the "Rider Fee" portion is only $1 with POOL, not $1.50 with uberX. More of what the rider pays is your fare.

WHAT IS THE PRICE OF POOL?

uberPOOL is cheaper than uberX. How much depends on what time it is:

  • Middle of the night: 5-10% cheaper than uberX
  • Weekday morning and evening: 25-35% cheaper than uberX
  • Weekend evening and night: 25-40% cheaper than uberX
  • All other times: 20-25% cheaper than uberX

uberPOOL surges the same as uberX.

When you have multiple riders, each rider pays a set fare that get added together. It is win-win - each rider is paying a cheaper fare than uberX; but you get more than if you did the same drive on uberX.

DO RIDERS HAVE TO CHOOSE UBERPOOL?

uberX and uberPOOL are both options. If you get a POOL request, the rider should know they will "match" with more riders (in exchange for a lower price).

We will monitor ratings for potential impact by rider confusion.

WHAT DO I DO DIFFERENTLY WITH UBERPOOL?

uberPOOL is different than uberX. Here are tips on how to handle riders as they learn about POOL.

DO UBERXL PARTNERS GET UBERPOOL REQUESTS?

Only uberX partners will receive POOL requests.

uberXL partners will NOT receive POOL requests - instead you can sign up for uberHOP here (similar to POOL but for XL cars).

WHERE IS UBERPOOL?

POOL will ONLY be an option when pick up and drop-off are INSIDE this area (plus drop-off at the airport).
