FAQs about our improved airport pick-up policy

How does the app know who's been in the queue longest?

Our database calculates each partner’s position in line based on a ‘digital fence’ around the airport grounds. When your GPS coordinates enter the fenced area, you are placed next in queue.

What if I use another app on my phone while I’m waiting?

In order to keep your place in the queue, the Uber Partner app must be open and in the foreground.  Taking calls, playing games or surfing the web may cause our system to think you’ve just arrived, and place you back at the end of the queue.  Also keep in mind, if you leave the cell phone lot before accepting a trip request, go offline in your partner app, do not accept a trip request, or cancel a ride, you will lose your current place in the queue.

A car got here after me, but got a request before me. What gives?

Each product (Black Car, SUV) has its own line.  Vehicles who receive requests with a shorter wait period than you are likely in a different product type.

Do I have to stay in the designated staging area to receive a request?

YES.  If you are parked anywhere besides the CVHA lots you will not receive any requests.

Can I receive a request if I wait closer to the terminal?

NO.  The only way to receive a request is by parking in the designated staging area and waiting for your turn in the queue.

Can I receive a request after dropping off a rider at departures?

NO.  The only way to receive a request is by parking in the designated staging area and waiting for your turn in the queue.

Do I need to show anything to pick up at Pearson?

Yes. All driver-partners are required to display their limousine plate on the outside of their vehicle.   Driver-partners must also present their active driver app (on their smartphone) to airport officials at the arrivals level of T1 and T3.

How do GTAA Fees Work?

The GTAA imposes a $15 surcharge for pre-arranged pickups at Pearson.  Uber remits this amount on your behalf so you can avoid paying upfront for each pick-up.  As of Monday, February 8, 2016, you will see a deduction of $11.25 per airport pick-up on your weekly payment statement to account for this fee.
