COMPETITION BUREAU OF CANADA CALLS ON REGULATORS TO MODERNIZE TAXI INDUSTRY REGULATIONS

"The arrival of rideโ€‘sharing services presents an important opportunity for regulatorsโ€”an opportunity to inject increased competition into the taxi industry by creating a single, level playing field for all. Consumers would benefit from competitive prices on a variety of innovative choices, while all service providers would have an equal chance to compete."          - John Pecman, Commissioner of Competition -

DRIVE STRESS-FREE THIS WINTER

It has been a warm November - but winter snow and ice is around the corner. Tens of thousands of new Uber riders sign up every week (seriously!) and we expect many more requests when it gets colder.

We have a few tips to help our partners drive in the winter to increase safety while reducing worry and stress on the road.

CONSIDER GETTING WINTER TIRES

Winter tires are worth the investment for improved traction and braking (more control and less worry). Uber earnings are very high during snow, so winter tires could pay for themselves while keeping yourself, your vehicle, and your passengers safe.

Canadian Tire is offering Uber partners a 25% discount on Goodyear Nordic Winter Tires! This offer is available at all participating Ontario and Alberta Canadian Tire locations. See driveuber.ca/ubercantire for more details.

BUY A PHONE MOUNT

They are very cheap ($10 or less) at stores like Walmart, Best Buy, etc. A phone mount lets you pay more attention to the road and reduces risk of getting a ticket for distracted driving. These infractions can cost you up to $1,000 and three demerit points in Ontario, so it may be the best to spend a one-time $10!

KNOWLEDGE BASE

ย

ACCEPTANCE RATES & CANCELLATIONS

WHY DO THEY MATTER?

ย

ACCCEPTANCE RATES

Why do we care about acceptance rates? If you receive a request, it's because you are the closest driver and the best person to take the request! If you don't accept, the request must go to someone further away. If that happens a lot, it means that drivers will have to travel further to pickup their riders.

If we all accept more requests, all requests will become closer to you and your pickup times will come down!

ย

CANCELLATIONS

Cancelling trips provides a bad experience for both riders and drivers. Riders think a car is coming for them only to find out that they must find a new car. Drivers suffer most by cancellations. When you cancel, the request goes to a car further away. That car must travel further to pick up the passenger, and makes less money per hour.
